The best afternoon involves sitting with the herons and turtles and writing in my journal.
Isobella Jade is an author and essayist. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Business Insider, SheKnows, Glamour, SELF, Writer’s Digest and more.
As a child and teen she was always writing in a journal. In high school she wrote poems and inspirational quotes for her track and cross country teammates to read before races.
Before she wrote books, she studied advertising at NYIT. Following an unconventional path, she ended up being in front of the camera instead, and spent a decade modeling for national magazines and advertising campaigns, despite her lack of height. During this time she hosted a popular podcast, blog and published books and essays about her experiences. She wrote the manuscript for her first book (while standing in heels) while using the display computers at the Apple Store in SoHo in New York City in her 20s when she was without a computer. The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The New York Post and more covered her inspiring story of beating the odds as a shorter than average model.
The last time Jade modeled in an ad campaign was hand modeling and holding a little toy turtle, not seen by the camera was that she was pregnant at the time. These days, modeling is behind her and motherhood and writing has taken over.
Jade shines a light on growing up in Syracuse, New York and her time as a competitive track runner in her memoir Running Rebel and Mad Dog, a memoir of heirlooms left behind. Written after the tragic death of her father, each page captures her memories running with him and their complex relationship while she navigates the keepsakes left behind and found in his car.
Heart Trail, Love, Loss and Mending from New York to Houston shares her latest journey about the healing found in nature after a profound life change.
A New Yorker at heart, Jade lives in Houston where she mostly enjoys the parks and trails.
